Magazine Articles - Technical & Entertaining

National and regional magazines
National, Regional and Professional Special-Interest Magazines

On Scene is the international Search & Rescue bulletin of the U.S. Coast Guard. Southern Boating is the nation's second-largest circulation recreational boating magazine, while Heartland.. and Great Lakes.. are popular regional magazines. CB Guide was the most popular and technical of the early national CB radio magazines. Powerboat Reports and Practical Sailor are highly acclaimed; they accept no advertising and deal with product testing and issues of great concern to dedicated boat owners.

Some 150 of my articles have been published in a wide variety of magazines, many of these cover-features. My photos and CAD drawings accompanied many of these articles. The magazines seen here are typical of those for which I have written, but this is not an exhaustive listing. I was listed as "Contributing Editor" in CB Guide and Southern Boating.

For the articles published in Practical Sailor and Powerboat Reports, I provided analytical testing, illustrations, and research to support my submissions.

The crucial demands made of a technical writer in all of these are the need to assure absolute accuracy while -- in most instances -- entertaining and holding the reader's interest. Typical of these is an article on Lightning Protection that I wrote in 1997.
